Everything You Want Is on the Other Side

Inspired by Graham Weaver episode

Graham Weaver's insight: path to better goes through worse first. Every parenting change follows the pattern - worse before better.

Everything You Want Is On The Other Side

Graham Weaver says everything you want is on the other side of the hard thing. In product, that's the painful feature rebuild. In parenting, it's the tantrum.

You know what's on the other side of your kid's meltdown about the wrong color plate? Growth. Character development. Emotional regulation. You know what's also on the other side? Tomorrow's tantrum about a different plate.

The hard thing about the hard thing is there's always another hard thing. You finally get them to eat vegetables, and suddenly they've decided forks are optional. You teach them to share, and they apply that lesson by sharing their flu with the entire preschool.

Product managers do the hard thing to unlock growth. Parents do the hard thing to unlock bedtime. It's basically the same, except in product you get promoted and in parenting you get pink eye.
