Doers and Planners Both Matter
Inspired by Shreyas Doshi episode
Some PMs ship fast, others build systems. Your toddler's the same—sometimes they DO, sometimes they need to plan first.
Some PMs ship fast and iterate. Others optimize everything before launching. Both are valuable. Different problems need different approaches.
Your toddler has the same range. Sometimes they're all action: grab the markers, draw on the wall, figure out consequences later. Other times they turn into a tiny project manager: line up all the blocks by color, sort the animal crackers by species, plan the tower before placing a single piece.
Neither mode is better. Both are maddening in different ways.
The chaos happens when you force the wrong mode. Your planner just needs to get their shoes on, not architect a seventeen-step exit strategy. Your doer does not need to "think through" whether they want apple slices before committing. They'll know after the first bite.
Some situations need doing. Some need planning. You can't always tell which until you've picked the wrong one.
