Make It Easy

Inspired by Matt Dixon episode

Matt Dixon on reducing effort required to get to the outcome. Want compliance? Make it easier to do the thing than fight about it.

Matt Dixon taught customer service teams that the best support reduces customer effort. The harder you make something, the less likely people do it.

You want your kid to clean up toys? Put the bin exactly where they play. Want them to hang up their coat? Put the hook at their height, not where it looks nice to you.

We install coat hooks at adult eye level, shove toy bins in the closet, then act shocked when they drop everything on the floor. The floor has zero friction. The floor always wins.

This isn't lowering your standards. It's designing for success instead of designing a beautiful system that requires them to be someone they're not. Stop creating unnecessary barriers, then wondering why they won't cooperate. The desired behavior should be the easiest option, not an obstacle course.

Customer service figured this out. Your living room should too.
