Get Curious, Not Furious

Inspired by Joe Hudson episode

Joe Hudson's antidote to reactivity: get curious about why someone's behaving that way instead of just reacting.

Your kid dumps a gallon of water on the kitchen floor and you're ready to lose it. But wait. Get curious. "Hey buddy, what's happening here?" Turns out they're "practicing for the Olympics." You laugh instead of screaming. They're still grounded, but at least you didn't damage their brain.

Someone on your team ships code that breaks everything on a Friday at 5 PM. Anger floods in. Then you ask: "Walk me through your thinking." Turns out they were working around a tool that was broken, documented nothing, and were terrified to ask for help. Suddenly you're problem-solving, not rage-texting.

Fury just makes everyone defensive and stupid. Curiosity actually fixes things. Get curious, not furious. Ask questions. You'll be amazed what people are trying to accomplish when they do dumb stuff.
