What's Not Being Said

Inspired by Jerry Colonna episode

Jerry Colonna's question for leaders: What are you not saying? Turns out this also explains why you're hiding in the bathroom scrolling your phone.

Jerry asks: What am I not saying that needs to be said?

Your kid's been a nightmare all week. You've deployed sticker charts, consequences, and that tone of voice you swore you'd never use. You're currently threatening to cancel a birthday party that's seven months away. Nothing's working and now you're Googling "is my toddler broken."

But here's the thing you're not saying out loud: "I'm exhausted and I just need one day where nobody needs me." Or "I have no idea what I'm doing." Or "Can someone else figure out why pants are suddenly the enemy?"

You're not saying it because that would be admitting defeat. So instead you're just... really mad at a three-year-old for not reading the room. They can feel that you're barely holding it together. They just express it by losing their mind over which cup you gave them water in.

The unspoken thing is running the whole show anyway. Your kid's not the problem—they're just responding to the stress cloud you're pretending doesn't exist.
