Choose Your Suffering
Inspired by Graham Weaver episode
Graham Weaver says life is suffering anyway - you might as well suffer for something you care about. Parenting is suffering too. Pick what's worth it.
Pick your hard. Graham Weaver says you get to choose your suffering - build something difficult or regret not building it. Both suck, but one sucks forward.
Same deal with parenting. You can suffer through the tantrum in Target right now, or you can give in and suffer through every future Target trip for the next six years. You can suffer through bedtime battles at 8pm, or suffer through a feral child at 11pm who's treating your bedroom like a rave. You can suffer through "I don't want broccoli" for the hundredth time, or suffer through a teenager whose relationship with vegetables is purely theoretical.
The suffering is mandatory. The direction is optional.
Every parenting choice is a negotiation with future-you about who gets screwed. Present-you or future-you? Pick your hard.
