Make Your Yes Easy
Inspired by Claire Vo episode
Claire Vo didn't just ask for a promotion - she drew up the org chart, figured out the transition, and presented the complete solution. Teaching kids to make their requests easy to approve transforms negotiations.
Claire Vo wanted to lead marketing. She didn't walk in saying "I deserve a promotion." She showed up with an org chart, a transition plan, and a PowerPoint that made her boss's only job clicking "approve." She did all the work of saying yes for him.
Your kid wants a sleepover. First attempt: "Can Maya come over?" You now have seventeen questions. When? How long? Meals? Who's picking her up? You're tired just thinking about it. No.
Second attempt: "Can Maya sleep over Friday? Her mom said yes. We'll stay in my room, watch one movie, lights out by 9:30, her mom's picking her up at 10am. We have a sleeping bag."
One of these is a problem you have to solve. The other is a plan you just approve. You say yes to the second one because they pre-approved it for you. They did the mental labor. They addressed every concern before you had it.
This is not manipulation. This is understanding that people are lazy and tired and if you make the yes easy, you'll get more of them.
