Build Confidence Through Competence

Inspired by Christian Idiodi episode

Christian earns trust by demonstrably knowing customers, data, and business better than anyone. Your kid's scared. Reassurance won't work. Make them the expert who happens to have the data.

PMs earn influence through competence. Christian doesn't get respect because he's called a PM. He gets it because when someone asks about users, he has answers no one else has.

Your kid is terrified of their dark bedroom. You've tried nightlights that make it look like a rave, staying with them until you wake up with your face stuck to their race car sheets. You're trying to convince them they're safe. They don't need convincing. They need data.

Make them the darkness expert. "You've slept here 200 nights. What's in that corner? What's that hallway sound—fridge or furnace?" They catalog. Shadow by the closet is the streetlight. Creaking is the house settling, 9:47 every night. They're not the scared kid anymore. They're the person with 200 nights of empirical evidence about this specific darkness.
