Practice The Role Before The Title

Inspired by Christian Idiodi episode

Christian says don't wait for the VP promotion to start doing VP things. Practice the role when mistakes are safe. Your kid's about to start kindergarten. Let them practice "big kid things" now.

Christian sees it constantly: someone gets promoted to VP, Googles "how to be a VP," tries whatever the first article says. Best time to learn VP work is before you're a VP—when failure is cheap.

Your kid starts kindergarten in three months. Day one they'll need to open their lunch box without dumping everything, put on their jacket without getting stuck like they're escaping a straitjacket. You're sending them in completely untrained.

Start practicing now. Do "morning routine" at home—jacket, backpack, lunch box—where mistakes just mean you're late to nowhere. Do "circle time" where sitting criss-cross for ten minutes is an achievement. By day one, they've done this fifty times. The failures already happened at home, not in front of 20 kids who somehow already know how zippers work.
