Values in Every Interaction

Inspired by Barbra Gago episode

Barbra Gago on values manifesting in every interaction, not just words. Your kid learns your values from your behavior, not your lectures.

Your kids don't listen to your values—they smell them. You're telling them to be honest while Googling "what credit score is acceptable" at 11 PM in panic. You're preaching patience while losing your mind because the WiFi is slow. They're watching you fail the audition every day.

You say you value kindness. But did your kid see you being kind? Or did they see you snapping at your partner, leaving a passive-aggressive Yelp review about the avocado being "too ripe," then turning to them with a smile like nothing happened?

Here's the brutal part: they believe the version of you that yells, not the one that apologizes. The yelling was the real master class. Your values aren't your LinkedIn headline. They're your 4 AM mood. They're how you treat the barista. They're whether you actually use that meditation app or just let it sit on your home screen like a trophy of your intentions.

You want them patient? Start by not rage-quitting shows. Want them honest? Admit when you're wrong. Not in a "conscious parent" way. Actually mean it. They can smell the performance.
