Option Value over Regret

Inspired by Asha Sharma episode

Asha Sharma's 'maximize option value' lesson—choose paths that keep future doors open—applies to parenting approaches too.

Asha Sharma's obsessed with "option value." Don't just pick the safest choice. Pick the choice that lets you change your mind later. Life's too long to lock yourself into rigid decisions you'll hate in six months.

Your kid won't nap. You're exhausted. Your mom swears: strict 2 PM naptime, no exceptions, for three years minimum. One wrong move and you've just committed to this prison forever. Or you could casually try naps when everyone's tired and see what sticks.

Here's the genius: the rigid 2 PM schedule feels safe right now. But what if your kid gets sick? Daycare changes? You travel? You're now fighting a toddler AND a routine you promised yourself. The flexible approach costs you nothing today. But it costs you freedom later.

Pick the path that doesn't lock your future self into a nightmare. Not because it's safe. Because it's reversible. You can always get stricter. You can never get out of strict. Stay loose. Stay sane.
