The Dog and the Rabbit

Inspired by Nikhyl Singhal episode

Nikhyl Singhal's dog vs rabbit career modes explain why some days you're proactive and some days you're just surviving.

Nikhyl Singhal says you're either the dog or the rabbit. The dog chases opportunities, stays on offense. The rabbit gets chased by demands, totally defensive.

In parenting you get maybe four dog days a year. You wake up rested, there's milk in the fridge, nobody has lice, and you're like "Today we're doing a craft project." You find the scissors. You remember where you put the glue. You're unstoppable.

The other 361 days you're the rabbit. Demands are literally chasing you. Someone needs a permission slip you've never seen. There's yogurt in a shoe. The kindergartener is explaining why water isn't actually wet and you're just trying to locate matching socks before the bus comes.

The guilt hits because you think you should be the dog. You shouldn't. Some seasons you're just a rabbit who successfully kept everyone alive. That's the whole job.

You're not failing. You're just correctly identifying which animal you are today.
